Gather Hear Tour
In August of 2017, I launched my project Gather Hear Tour in Alaska, where I drove for three weeks with a piano in a van to set up and play in community gathering places such as bars, cafes, and community centers. I performed 16 concerts and 8 school presentations in 15 towns to people who may otherwise not have access to quality live classical music, or may not have thought to seek it out. The tour frees classical music from the constraints of concert halls and brings it back to its fundamental function - bringing people together, and connecting us through an elevated and moving experience.
The goal is to tour all 50 states in this divided time when we can’t help but feel that there is no shared humanity across the country. Gather Hear Tour cherishes the relationships with individuals and communities it creates through music, and the strengths and charms of American life discovered along the way. It documents and shares its stories and findings through a YouTube vlog series. The second chapter, Gather Hear West Virginia, was completed in October 2018.
